Understanding Diamond Color and Characteristics

Looking for diamonds to purchase? Then diamond color is an aspect of the buying process that should not be overlooked. Though it’s not necessary to know every detail about diamond color, but having a basic knowledge of diamond color chart helps prevent overspending on diamonds. By saying the colour of a diamond actually refers to the lack of color in a diamond, colorless diamonds are considered the highest quality with the highest value, generally the more radiant, valuable, and rare as well. Now buy diamond jewellery online, best design curated for you.
Colored diamonds can vary from gray, blue, yellow, white, orange, red, black, pink, purple, brown to green. They contain structural defects or impurities that causes the coloration, pure diamonds are colorless and perfectly transparent.

FEW THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DIAMOND COLOr
  • The setting of the ring can play a major role in the perception and view of the color.
  • Diamond value is based on the absence of the color.
·         The color grade of a diamond should always be determined by a grading professional or laboratory.
·         To be very sure about diamonds colour, get a GIA grading report.
DIAMOND COLOR SCALE CHART
The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is a well-respected diamond grading organisation that issues reports for diamonds.
When you’re in the diamond jewellery store, it’s advisable to ask for a GIA certificate for every diamond you look for.
GIA grades Diamond Color on the following scale-

Colorless
D is the highest color grade, it is colorless. Under magnification and in the naked eye, it appears to be colorless. E and F look almost identical to the naked eye, and only an expert gemologist can note the differences between D, E, and F grades. D-F diamonds are usually set in platinum or white gold. And they cost more in the market.
Nearly Colorless
G-J color grades exhibit very little color. In fact, when mounted in jewelry, these diamonds appear to be colorless. G-J diamonds price tends to reduce by 10-15% per grade and may make no noticeable difference to the naked eye.
Faint Tint
K-M diamonds show a slight yellow tint even to the naked eye. Because of their slightly visible color, diamonds of this range are often found for 50% less than those of the G-J range. While some prefer these warmer colors set in a beautiful yellow gold setting.
Very Light Tint
Due to their noticeable discernible color, N-R diamonds are available at a much lower price.
Light Tint
Diamonds of S-Z range have noticeable yellow or brown tinting. For this reason, these diamonds are not recommendable.

DIAMOND CLARITY
Diamond clarity simply refers to the absence of any blemishes or inclusions. Any visual appearance of internal characteristics of a diamond is called inclusions, and surface defects is called blemishes.
1) Inclusions - These are found within the diamond and are counted in
internal flaws. Few examples are
·         Cavities
·         Laser lines
·         Air bubbles
·         Clouds
2) Blemishes - They are found on the surface of diamond and are counted
in surface flaws. Some of them occur during the cutting process.
·         Polish lines
·         Scratches
·         Dark spots
·         Breaks
According to modern grading system clarity ranges from Flawless (diamonds which are completely free of blemishes and inclusions), to Imperfect 3 (diamonds which has large, heavy blemishes and inclusions that are visible to the naked eye).
·         Flawless (F): No internal or external flaws which are extremely rare.
·         Internally Flawless diamonds(IF): No internal flaws, but may have some surface flaws.
·         Very Very Slightly (VVS1-VVS2): These are minute inclusions that are very
difficult to detect under 10x magnification by a trained gemmologist.
·         Very Slightly (VS1-VS2): These  inclusions can be seen with
difficulty under 10x magnification.
·         Slightly Included (SI1-SI2): Minute inclusions which are more easily detected
under 10x magnification.
·         Included (I1, I2, I3): Inclusions which are visible under 10x magnification.
Most importantly, ensure the diamond looks white in relation to its setting because the diamond you are choosing should stand out as the bright, even if you buy diamonds online. The diamonds typically used in engagement rings tend to be of the near colorless variety. When searching for the perfect diamond, it’s all about finding the diamond’s beauty and brilliance.
